Created in 2008 in Bafut, the association was registered in 2013 and works to bring back the lost dignity of the underprivileged and suffering population especially the woman and her children. We offer scholarships/education programs, run outreach programs, train on wealth creation and management, and provide seed grants. We also run health projects.

 ∙ To promote literacy in Cameroon, especially among the orphans, street children and children in enclave areas.

MISSION:
CANU Association aims at building a sustainable future for the Cameroonian population and the world at large This involves sensitization on ways of eradicating common diseases like Malaria, typhoid, cholera; ending poverty; living peacefully with neighbours; protect and preserve the environment and helping marginalized groups to grow socially, morally and otherwise.
The association offers training on ICT, modern farming methods to young farmers. It is also concerned with environmental issues and sensitizes the population on behaviors that endanger our environment. CANU through its actions seeks a positive change for all humanity in the world, thus creating hope and a brighter future.
Our seminars, conferences and workshops are geared towards the building of better and better informed people and communities. We believe that change can be effectively achieved when people change the way they think, act and the knowledge they have acquired.
By these, we aim to build a new world where people can live happily and leave it with a brighter future for the generations to come.

Our Activities

Calling Government to endorse the SDGS 15/01/15
1. Education
CANU Educate communities on sustainable development goals and their implementation through seminars, conferences and actions on the ground.

2. Scholarship Schemes include:
 Providing didactic materials (textbooks, exercise books, pens, etc.), paying tuition fees of students who are in need and also providing vocational skills to children who have dropped out of school for other reasons than listed above.
 Sensitize the people on some social ills and poor aspects of the customs and beliefs.
 The training of youths and members of communities on the use of ICT tools and provision of ICT tools to communities.
 Running of “School Out of Classroom” Project where youths and provided PCs or laptops with educational materials which they can use to study where they are no means to attend normal classes.
 * Construction of School or classroom wherever there is a need and whenever the financial means are available

You can provide support by providing a computer to a community in CAMEROON

3. Care, Outreach and assistance
a) Provision of medical assistance and nutrition. From the beginning we used to take them to nearby health centers or hospitals (depending on the area). As of December 2016, CANU wishes to run Health Centers in areas where these are lacking and the need is high. This is aimed at providing access to medical assistance especially to the underprivileged population.
b) Provision of basic needs (clothing, comfort, etc.). Whenever there is a possibility, we do everything possible to provide some basic necessities to the underprivileged population especially the aged, children and youths in need.
c) Formation of sharing Groups

d) Training of youths mostly female who have dropped from school on managerial capabilities to start and run small projects to help themselves.
e) Assistance (material or financial) to kick start small scale businesses for those we have trained.

Health Care
Health care is a basic human right. Thus health facilities must be made accessible to everyone at all times and at a moderate cost, affordable to everyone. We are working to create health centers in the most abandoned areas of the country where we will endeavor to:
a) Educate our beneficiaries and communities on the need for better health practices through conferences, seminars and workshops
b) Provision of portable water for communities to reduce the risk of contamination which is one of the major causes of ill health in rural communities in Cameroon, as many people drink but water from open streams and some from exposed or badly managed wells.
c) Educate people on prevention of common diseases and birth control methods

End of Year visit to the Aged in Bafut

The end of year visit to the aged was a very rich experience. At first some of us had insisted on bringing them together despite the fact that those in the field made us to understand that it was not possible. When we could not convince them to gahter these our lovely people together, we had no other choice than to meet them. Since the gifts we had could not rich everyone in the group, we had to choose those who were most in need of our token. To the others, we offered nothing but a smile as many have not received a visitor for a long time except the usual neighbours who interact with them on daily basis. During the visit we observed the following:
1. Many of our aged people go for days and even weeks with no one to say hi to them but for the good will neighbours.
2. About 90-95% of them suffer from lack of calcium and magnessium, which has caused them to be indoors even when they could still move around to do one thing or the other.
3. About 80% of them lack proper care as they are now a burden to their caregivers. From the look of things, 75% of caregivers find it difficult to love their work-taking care of the aged because of lack of proper means to offer all they need at this age.
4. About 10% of those we visited had no one to care for them. This was due to two main reasons.
(i) All their children were dead and none left to offer the care they needed.
(ii) their only living children were far away with no financial backings to hire someone else to take care of their aged ones
5. At least 90% of them go for months and at times almost throughout the years without basic items neccessary for their living. We met about 70% in the kitchen as their bed rooms with only bamboo beds and a few clothes thrown over the beds to serve as mattresses. Their coverings were fire which was being set to keep the room warm. They need our help.
